Sargent Bentley’s safe travel pod

Sleepypod pet carriers by Pawsincar is crash-tested for safety in the car – PLUS has many convenient features.

Every comfort cat has a safe beginning, and Sargent Bentley’s is no different. He journey home and first days with us were all about safe transitions and introductions. There were a couple of key tools that made his (and our) transitions easier. First and foremost: his Sleepypod crash-tested pet carrier. Here’s a little bit about that if you’re also someone who’s concerned about safe travel in the car.

Bentley’s first safe space was built around a Sleepypod mobile pet bed — a carrier that doubles as a resting spot. Unlike traditional crates, its soft dome design reduces stress while giving him a safe place in the car – it’s literally crash-tested for safety in automobiles. Check them out: Pawsincar is not messing around with pet safety.

I shipped this Sleepypod directly to Figg & Prowle (love that name!) who is the breeder of Siberian cats from whom I got “Silver Tabby Boy,” later to be named Sargent Bently. This gave him an opportunity to get to know the bed and think of it as a safe and familiar place before traveling home, to reduce his stress on the journey.

I have to say that that worked. He did need to poke his head out for some reassurance and I, seated next to him in the back seat while my husband drove us home, let him do that. But you can prevent that if it’s just the two of you – the zippers can clip to prevent them from being pushed open (huge – OMG I remember my Coon pushing through her zipper under the airline seat on our flight back east from 5 years in Colorado – and I had an infant in my lap. So stressful!).  Remember, Sargent Bentley is meant to be adaptable enough to travel between the two places that I live and work, so having a safe transport for routine travel is essential!

How about you? What’s your experience with traveling with cats? Lmk @sargentbentleycat. I have to say, I have never done it before, other than to the vet and back – which, fortunately, is very close by. I can’t imagine asking that of my older cat now, but hopefully Sargent Bentley will adapt. Starting with the right equipment (more on that later).
